Mexico promises "exhaustive investigation" into the deaths of two musicians

Mexico's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) reported Monday that authorities will conduct an " exhaustive investigation " following the discovery of the bodies of Colombian musicians Bayron Sánchez Salazar, known as B King, and his bandmate Jorge Luis Herrera Lemos, who had been reported missing after a tour in the country.
"A thorough investigation will be conducted by the competent authorities of our country to clarify what happened," the Mexican Foreign Ministry posted on its X account.
In this same message, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) reported that the Colombian Foreign Ministry has already been notified of the homicide investigation that will be led by Mexican authorities , as well as the Mexico City Attorney General's Office (FGJCDMX), which confirmed the discovery of the musicians' lives on Monday.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will maintain open dialogue and collaboration with the Colombian Foreign Ministry, as it has done so far," the social media post detailed.
For its part, the FGJCDMX stated in a statement that after various acts of investigation, as well as the collection of testimonies and video recordings, it was established that the last whereabouts of both artists would have been in the State of Mexico , for which reason it began a collaboration with the Attorney General's Office of that state (FGJEM).
"Thanks to this coordination , forensic services personnel from the FGJEM (National Investigation Agency) conducted a comparison of the profiles of the missing individuals and found matches with two deceased individuals who were located on September 17 in the municipality of Cocotitlán. In light of these events, the FGJEM is conducting a homicide investigation ," the capital's agency stated.
The place where their bodies were found, on the outskirts of Mexico City , is more than 50 kilometers southeast of where they were last contacted.
- The statement stated that Bayron Sánchez Salazar's relatives identified the singer's body during a procedure conducted at the Tlalnepantla Regional Deputy Attorney General's Office of the FGJEM, in San Pedro Barrientos.
B King , 31, and Herrera Lemos, 35, had disappeared on September 16, according to reports, after attending a gym in the luxurious Polanco neighborhood of Mexico City.
Following their disappearance, the Mexico City Commission for the Search for Persons issued two wanted notices for the singers , who had performed the previous weekend.
On Sunday, on his X account, Colombian President Gustavo Petro asked Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum for help in locating both artists alive .
On Monday morning, Sheinbaum confirmed that the Attorney General's Office (FGR) and the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) were already investigating the disappearance of both artists .
On September 15, the day before his disappearance, B King thanked the fans who attended his performance in the nation's capital on social media .
